Company Categories allow you to sort the companies into various groups to facilitate searching, filtering, reporting and mail merging.  When you create a company, you will be able to select the company categories that apply to it.

You can enter as many different types of companies as you require under Company Category 1, Company Category 2 and Company Category 3.  These three lists are independent of each other. Company Categories 2 and 3 are not subsets of Category 1.

The separate lists simply allow you to keep the categories organized under shorter lists if you prefer.  You could put all your different company categories in one big list, or split them up among multiple lists in whatever system you prefer.

A company may belong to more than one category listed under any of the three lists.  For example, if Company Category 1 included Business, Educational, Financial, Government, etc., a company could be categorized as both Business and Financial.
